Buddies

"It's a great place
to make new friends."

The techniques that make up the core of our training method are based on an ancient and well-tested system of warrior disciplines handed down by nine historical Japanese lineages. At the same time, our training is built around a very modern approach to successfully handling the kinds of threats and confrontations that are most likely in our own contemporary culture. For the class schedule, click here.

From the very first lesson, students learn methods that they can use right away, regardless of their physical condition or any prior martial arts experience.

C.O.O.L. KIDZ classes are offered for 4-7 year olds where they have fun while they gain confidence and learn basic ways that they can protect themselves. Respect for others is emphasized and the classes are safe and non-competitive.

Level 1 - Foundations of Self-Protection - You begin your adventure with a 9-month course which is designed to provide you with a grounding in effective physical, intellectual, and emotional self-protection - and provide you with an exciting excursion into the potential of empowering self development.

Level 2 - Advanced Self-Protection - Build on the success-generating principals of personal confidence, ability to recognize potential danger, and capability to respond effectively under pressure which you learned in Level 1 - Foundations of Self-Protection.

Level 3 - Path of the Protector Martial Arts - At this level your training evolves into a "path of self-knowledge, self-discovery and personal exploration." This level skill and confidence leads to earning a Black Belt in To-Shin Do®. You know you are living up to your fullest potential, the "exciting peace" of coming home to the truth of just how strong you really are.

Level 4 - Black Belt Mastery - As a Black Belt student, you go beyond basic technique to enter the realm of training a winning spirit for all of life's challenges. Some of the advanced skills you develop include: using less effort to generate more speed and power, how to respond with grace and intelligence when confronted with brutality or ignorance, how to deal with multiple attackers, weapons or attackers skilled in street-fighting or other martial arts, how to protect others.

Warrior Mind Science – Weekly introspective classes featuring exploration of the role of mind, attitude, emotion, and awareness in determining the outcomes of daily encounters.

Shadows of Iga Ninja Classes - For practitioners interested in classical training, the Dayton Quest Center offers courses in traditional and historical scroll training from our nine historical lineages from Japan.

Other offered courses:
Women's Self-Reliance
Youth Empowerment & Leadership
Modern Self-Protection
Traditional Japanese Martial Arts
Mind, Science and Meditation

Students are expected to:

  • Attend 2 classes per week on a regular and consistent schedule. All classes include a workout introduction to the techniques of To-Shin Do, along with a chance to try the techniques in dynamic simulation with a partner.
(COOL Kidz attend 1 or 2 classes)
  • Bring protective gear appropriate for belt level.
  • Arrive 5 - 10 minutes prior to scheduled class.
  • Keep uniform neat, clean, odor-free; it is not a good idea to wash the belt — it will shrink.
  • Health regulations dictate tabi or heavy socks — no bare feet.
  • Quietly prepare for class. DO NOT disturb current class in session.
  • Always be well mannered and keep an eye on safety of fellow practitioners. Please remind your guests to do the same.
  • Make arrangements to make up missed classes.
  • Show proper effort, spirit and respect in the dojo at all times. Be real! Make every moment count!
  • Practice and review at home for best results.
  • Keep your notebook up to date and take responsibility for passing your tests.
  • Check the student info bulletin board and www.daytonquestcenter.com for important scheduling information.
